"The temple is a third class royal temple, ranked Ratchaworawihan. The area where the temple is situated belongs to Sra Pathum Palace, which was built by King Rama IV to be his residence. In 1857 he ordered the construction of the temple on the area to confer His Majesty the Queen Thepsirintra and named the temple Wat Pathum-Wanaram, which is generally called Wat Sra Pathum or Wat Sra. After it was completed, the King invited monk from Wat Bowonniwet Wihan to be in charge of the temple.
A brass principal Buddha image named Phra Sai or Phra Sa-Ay is enshrined in the temple hall (Ubosot). While the sermon hall (Wihan) contains enshrined Buddha images overcoming temptations (Mara), named Phra Saen and Phra Soem. Both of the Buddha images were brought from Vientiane of Laos in the reign of King Rama III."
