"Is an important road that connects the traffic flow between the capital city, Bangkok and Thon Buri. It was built approximately around 1939-1940 by Phraya Mahaisawan (Ko Sombatsiri) when he was holding the position of municipality minister of the municipality of Thon Buri City. (During that time Thon Buri was a province) He was the person who initiated the construction of Charoen Nakhon Road, that ran from Somdet Chao Phraya Road in Khlong San area, running along the bank of the Chao Phraya river up till Khlong Dao Khanong in Bukkhalo area. Charoen Nakhon was the first road to be built with a width of thirty metres, prior to this only narrow roads had been built. Once the road had been built the municipality of Thon Buri had requested to the Ministry of Interior to name the road, which they initially named Mahaisawan Road, according to the name given by the King to Phraya Mahaisawan. But Phraya Mahaisawan requested that the name of the road be kept as Charoen Nakhon road, so that it mimicked the name Charoen Krung Road, which was the road on the side of the capital city. The Ministry of Interior then gave permission to name the road Charoen Nakhon Road, whereas the name Mahaisawan Road was given to the new road that was constructed that connected Charoen Nakhon Road with Taksin Road, in honour of Phraya Mahaisawan."
